NEW FOR 2025 !
Mochdre Community Council's
annual Christmas Lights Competition is a wonderful opportunity for members of the community to showcase their creativity, spread holiday cheer, and celebrate the spirit of the season.
It's open to everyone in the Mochdre boundary. Outdoor displays and window displays (for those without a garden) are eligible to enter.

ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY
The competition is open to residents in the Mochdre boundary. Front gardens, back gardens (as long as they can be accessed for judging) and also window displays for those without a garden. Everyone is welcome. Simply fill in the form above or pick one up from Onestop shop. By entering the competition you are agreeing to the use of any photos on social media, community website and council documents i.e. posters.
COMPETITION TIMELINE
Forms will be arriving through your letterboxes in the next few weeks, or you can fill in the form above, and entries will close on 15th December 2025. Entry forms can be dropped off at Onestop shop. Judging will commence from 16th to 19th December 2025. Winners will be notified ASAP by phone, text, or email. Results will be shared on social media, the community website and on the 'A' Board outside The Onestop shop.

Prizes will be given for

BEST OVERALL GARDEN (including back gardens) £50 'multi' store gift card.

RULES & GUIDELINES

Themes: Entrants may choose a theme such as traditional, whimsical, winter wonderland, nativity, or another holiday motif. Creativity is encouraged.

Lighting: All types of lights are permitted, including LED, incandescent, solar, and fibre-optic. Animated displays, inflatables, and projection mapping are also welcomed.

Size and Scope: The display must be confined to the participant's property and not obstruct roads, pavements, or neighbouring properties.

Safety: All electrical equipment must be rated for outdoor use. Cables should be secured and weatherproofed. Avoid trip hazards and overcrowding of electrical outlets.

Noise: Sound and music features are allowed but must not disturb neighbours. Please comply with local noise regulations.

All displays must comply with local ordinances, bylaws, and safety codes.

Do not use hazardous materials, pyrotechnics, or open flames.

Displays must not endanger passersby, wildlife, or property.

Entries may be disqualified for unsafe practices, offensive content, or failure to meet competition guidelines.

Use only lights and decorations rated for outdoor use.

Inspect all wires and connectors before installation; replace damaged items.

Secure cables to prevent trips and falls.

Keep electrical plugs and connections away from water sources.

Do not overload sockets or extension leads.
